Sennichimae Doguyasuji Shopping Street is located in Chuo ward, Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture, and is lined with stores specializing in cooking and kitchen utensils that support the “Tenka no Daidokoro (the nation’s kitchen)” and “Kuidaore”.
Note: The term “Tenka no Daidokoro (the nation’s kitchen)” comes from the fact that Osaka was the center of logistics and commerce during the Edo period. And important goods, including food and rice, were frequently traded.
“Kuidaore” means, spending extravagantly on food and drink and losing one’s property.
About Sennichimae Doguyasuji Shopping Street
The Sennichimae Doguyasuji Shopping Street is 150 meters (0.093 miles) long and lined with about 70 shops.
It is said to be the place to get everything you need for restaurants, and is known as a spot where professional chefs and restaurateurs as well as the general public can find their favorite cooking tools.
There are also stores where you can purchase food samples and experience making them.
Sennichimae Doguyasuji Shopping Street began in 1882 as an approach from Hozenji Temple to Shitennoji Temple and Imamiya Ebisu Shrine, where antique and general stores lined the street.
Later, Sennichimae Doguyasuji Shopping Street grew along with the development of Minami (Areas of Namba, Shinsaibashi, and Sennichimae).
